What makes a saber suitable for a younger user

Weight first: an aluminium hilt is roughly 24.5 cm of machined metal; a plastic eco hilt at 23.5 cm weighs a fraction of that. Blades are polycarbonate and replaceable, so a knock usually costs a blade, not the saber. And simplicity: a Base Lit saber runs from the hilt on two button presses, where a Proffie board is a hobbyist system that expects an adult to set it up.

What is actually in this collection

Mostly the Combat Lightsaber range: aluminium hilts with 1" polycarbonate blades on our modular VHC system, roughly £90 to £250. Alongside them sits the Eco Saber – Model Tyro, a plastic Base Lit hilt with a 7/8" blade, four sound fonts and USB-C charging at about £35. It is the only one here whose product page calls itself child-friendly, and the one we would hand to a child first — see the budget range too. It sells out often.

Blade formats, in plain terms

Two formats, not interchangeable with soundboards. Base Lit lights a diffused blade from an LED in the hilt, pairs with the RGBx board, and changes colour from the hilt — the least fiddly option. Neopixel runs an LED strip inside the blade for film-bright ignition and flash-on-clash, and pairs with Xenopixel or Proffie. Blade colour is set on the board, not the saber.

Duelling, and where the limits are

The Combat range is built for contact sparring — aluminium body, polycarbonate blade, a hilt made to be knocked about; the duelling collection has the rest. The eco saber is different: practice and light duelling, not full-contact. Blades are consumables; spares are in saber blades. Duel in clear space, keep faces out of the arc, and have an adult watching.

No — replica-style sabers inspired by the films, not licensed products. What ties one to a character is the sound font, not the blade colour.
