The hilt that curves for a reason

Count Dooku — Darth Tyranus to his Sith master — carried the most distinctive hilt on screen, and the shape is functional rather than ornamental. The curve seats the grip deeper in one hand and tips the blade forward, which is exactly what Form II asks for. Makashi is the duelling form: blade-on-blade fencing, economy of motion, footwork over force. Dooku was its finest practitioner, and the hilt is the tell.

From Jedi Master to Sith Lord

Dooku trained under Yoda and went on to teach Qui-Gon Jinn before leaving the Order, counted among the Lost Twenty who walked away of their own accord. He resurfaced as the aristocratic head of the Separatist movement, and his controlled, unhurried style was written as a deliberate contrast to the Jedi he had once been.

Where it first appears

Episode II, Attack of the Clones — the hangar on Geonosis, where Dooku takes Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi apart in turn before Yoda arrives. He returns in Revenge of the Sith, where the duel finally goes the other way.
