What Colour is Baylan Skoll’s Lightsaber?-Padawan Outpost

What Colour is Baylan Skoll’s Lightsaber?

In the Star Wars world, lightsabers are more than just weapons. Each colour means something special, and it's different for each character who uses one. At Padawan Outpost, we don't just sell top-notch lightsabers, but we also help you understand their importance in the Star Wars story. Let's dive into the unique orange-red lightsaber of Baylan Skoll and see why it's important in Star Wars.

Baylan Skoll is a key character in the Star Wars Extended Universe, especially in the "Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic" comics. Lately fans have been able to see this character from the Disney+ Series Ahsoka. Once a Jedi Knight and even serving as a Jedi General in the Grand Army of the Republic - Skoll turned his back on the Jedi way after narrowly surviving the infamous Order 66 and would later emerge a mercenary.

Skoll's lightsaber glows orange-red, which is different from the usual blue and green of most Jedi lightsabers. This colour isn't just for looks; it has deep meanings in Star Wars.

It is no wonder that Skoll's lightsaber is a merge of the colours red and yellow - obviously red is well known for showing the user is aligned with the Dark side of the Force, whereas yellow, although not used as much as its counterparts blue and green, is typically wielded by Jedi Sentinels in the franchise. With Skoll's personal journey of turning away from the Jedi way of life we can see his lightsaber as a physical representation of this internal struggle he faced. No longer a Jedi, but still maintains a link - he isn't fully Sith.

We can see this in the series where he is very hesitant to take Ahsoka's life - even stating it would be a waste, even viewing it as shameful. It's only when he feels he has no other option does he then fight to kill Ahsoka.

This isn't the first time we have seen a characters complex story being told throughout the unique colour of their lightsaber - with the most notable being Mace Windu's Purple Lightsaber. Where his purple lightsaber is a mix of Red and Blue, showing his ability to manage the balance between the Forces without being consumed by the Dark Side and still remaining a Jedi.

Baylan Skoll's use of an orange lightsaber might show that he's fighting for a better future, even if it means there are casualties along the way. Baylan has qualities of a Jedi Sentinel – he's hopeful, friendly, and doesn't like to fight. He's also calm, patient, and understanding. However, he's very focused on one goal: gaining power. Everything he does is to reach this goal, even if it means harm. His orange lightsaber suggests he still has hope, maybe believing his quest for power will lead to real peace, despite the harm he causes.

Unlike Darth Vader, who wanted power from hate and sorrow, Baylan seeks it for what seems like a more positive reason, but this reason still has some dark side influences.

This could mean that Baylan, as a user of an orange lightsaber, doesn't fully belong to either the Dark or Light Side of the Force. He might be something like a 'gray Jedi', not really part of the Jedi or Sith. His actions are driven by his own goals, not strictly by Jedi or Sith principles.

There's one thing we know for certain, Baylon Skoll's character, and therefore also lightsaber, became a fan favourite. With his complex story and captivating performing it's no surprise why so many people wanted to have this lightsaber in their collection.
