The most distinctive hilt on the Jedi Council

Most Jedi hilts are plain machined metal. Windu's is not: a deeply ribbed grip and a gold electrum finish down the body. In the lore that finish marked seniority on the Jedi Council rather than doing anything functional, which is why almost no other Jedi carries one — and why this is the easiest lightsaber in the saga to pick out across a room. It is the outline our combat and collectors edition hilts reproduce.

Why Windu's blade is purple

The real answer is not lore at all. Samuel L. Jackson asked George Lucas for a purple blade so he could pick himself out of the crowd in the Geonosis arena — leaving Windu the only Jedi on screen carrying one. Worth being clear what that means here: colour and effects are set on the soundboard, not built into the hilt, so any saber in this collection can run Windu's profile or anyone else's. The character tie is the preloaded sound font.

Where the saber first ignites

Windu appears in Episode I but never draws his weapon. The blade is first lit on screen in Attack of the Clones, in the Geonosis execution arena, held at Jango Fett's throat, and it stays with him to the confrontation with Palpatine in Revenge of the Sith. Off screen, Jackson had the prop hilt engraved with the initials BMF — a nod to his wallet in Pulp Fiction.

Every hilt here is offered across blade formats. Base Lit pairs with the RGBx soundboard and is the best-value route into duelling; Neopixel pairs with Xenopixel or Proffie for film-bright ignition and flash-on-clash. What colour was Mace Windu's lightsaber?

Purple — the only one in the films. On our sabers colour is configurable on the soundboard rather than fixed to the hilt.

Why is the hilt gold and silver?

That is the electrum finish. In the lore, electrum plating marked senior members of the Jedi Council, so very few Jedi hilts carry it.

When do we first see it?

Episode II, Attack of the Clones, in the Geonosis arena. Windu is on screen in Episode I but never ignites his lightsaber there.
