There is only one black blade in Star Wars

It is the Darksaber, and it is not a colour option — it is a single, specific weapon, forged roughly a thousand years before the films by Tarre Vizsla, the first Mandalorian admitted to the Jedi Order. Everything about it is one-off: the flat tapering blade with a point and a swept edge, the dark core inside a thin luminous rim, and the Mandalorian custom that it passes only to whoever beats its bearer in single combat.

Why nothing else has a black blade

A lightsaber blade is light. Black is what you get where there is none, so a genuinely black blade is a contradiction — one the fiction breaks exactly once, and breaks deliberately, because the Darksaber is meant to look wrong. Kyber crystal colour in the lore runs blue, green, yellow, purple, red where a crystal has been bled, and white where a bled crystal has been healed. Black is not on that list.

What people searching for a black lightsaber usually want

A black hilt. And unlike a black blade, that is a real thing you can buy — a genuine variant on the products in this collection, chosen at the point of order rather than configured afterwards.

Most of the combat hilts here carry a Colour option, and black is on nearly all of them. On the Model Iota, for instance, the specification reads Colours: Black · Gold · Silver · Grey. Several models pair black with a contrasting silver or chrome section, and the Base Lit Darksaber hilt is listed as Black/Silver.

A black hilt also does something useful beyond looking good: it makes the blade read brighter, because there is no bright metal competing with it at the emitter. That is why black hilts photograph well, and why they are a common pick for cosplay.

Hilt colour and blade colour are two different things

Worth stating plainly, because they get conflated constantly. The finish on the hilt is fixed when you order — that is the variant. The colour of the blade is not fixed at all: it lives on the soundboard and changes whenever you like. Base Lit hilts run the RGBx soundboard and cycle colour from the on-hilt controls. Neopixel hilts run Xenopixel, set through its configurator app, or Proffie, set in its config file. Can I set my blade to black?

No saber can. A blade is light, so the only black available is "off". What you can change is the colour it lights up, from the soundboard — and what you can buy in black is the hilt.

Do you sell black hilts?

Yes. Black is a listed finish on most of the combat hilts in this collection, usually alongside silver, grey and gold, and several models come in a black-and-silver combination. It is a real variant, selected when you order.

Which hilts come in black?

Can I duel with a Darksaber replica?
